During the spring-summer period, Britta Benno’s graphics will be exhibited in Maakri Quarter – the spring-like crisp series “Ice and Heather” in the lobby and the warm and summery “Map of the Earth” in the elevator hall.
“Ice and Heather” is a series of prints that seeks common features between writing and drawing, creation and the forces of nature. Inspired by Jaan Kaplinski’s literary reflections on the kinship between species, distant journeys in mountain landscapes and the local bogland, the graphic works are composed as a recurring pair of words: ice and heather. Blue lines scratched into the ice using the drypoint technique create a new combination with geometric reddish etchings reminiscent of bog plants.
“Earth Arch” is an arch-shaped series of screen prints of landscape compositions. Summer plants and color palettes have been collected from fields and flower beds, gardens and roadsides. The arch of life, the arch of the earth, the arch of triumph, the arch of a cave door, the arch of church windows – the series invites you to peek in through the window, under the arch, the land and the sky.
